MOTIONĀ | ILLUSTRATION
A two minute-long motion piece about the brief history of the Matryoshka Doll, its popularity and the various metaphors that it represents. The visuals take an abstract approach as I use the dolls in a literal and symbolic sense to tell the story and display facts, exploring the concept of infinity towards the end with the dolls continually opening up as the pace ramps up towards the end. I used a mix of satellite footage, photos, illustrations and type to start big (the earth) until it travels down to the dolls as they unravel. The voiceover and background music ironically has a more dramatic tone akin to a serious documentary despite being about a toy.
This was composed in Adobe After Effects with elements from Illustrator, Photoshop and footage from Google Earth, with a voiceover by myself.
I have also included some process sketches including the look and feel of the many elements, the theme of infinity and thumbnail sketches.
